About Us
I am a Registered Nurse and Independent/Supplementary Prescribing. My nursing career was initially focused on Accident and Emergency care until I qualified as an Emergency Nurse Practitioner. I then worked in a nurse led unit, working up to Clinical Nurse Manager role in charge of the nursing team. Being asked initially to just give a lecture on ankle injuries, I found my love of teaching, initially balancing clinical and academic work, in 2017 I took up a more permanent post in Higher Education. This has led me to now work in a multi-disciplinary team, teaching Advanced Care Practitioner students from nursing, physiotherapy and paramedic backgrounds. My clinical/academic background allows me to offer lectures on clinical skills/assessment, minor injury management, minor health conditions and pain assessment.

Dorthe Swaby-Larsen MSc, BSc (Hons), RGN, PGCert HE-Lecturer-Practice Educator (NMC
Registered), PGCert Leadership-Management, Non-Medical Prescriber – an experienced Nurse
Practitioner with over thirty years of experience spanning Emergency and Urgent Care nursing.
Dorthe worked as a Nurse Consultant for twelve years in South London and as Deputy Head of
Nursing, for King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. She worked as Lecturer Practitioner for
Middlesex University and has continued her passion for teaching and training by lecturing and
teaching freelance. Dorthe (in association with a Director of Nursing) established a university
accredited Urgent Care Training Programme for Emergency successfully delivered Emergency
Practitioner’s competent to work with adults and children with Minor Injuries and Illnesses within
an Urgent Care setting. Dorthe has particular experience and interests in Minor Injuries- wound
management and limb X-ray Interpretation
